Let me tell you how I quit smoking.
Smokers:
What is the first thing you would do if you are sitting at home alone, with a packet of fags in your pocket, and you receive some bad news?
What do you do when you come out of a stressful situation?
What do you do when it’s time to celebrate, and relax?
What do you do when you are about to do something even slightly stressful?
What do you do after a meal?

I am one of the British Asian medical students today. And, although I wasn’t forced to attend medical school, I was pressurised, more or less from a young age. There was a large amount of encouragement to study medicine, with a lot of excitement surrounding this option, with much less given elsewhere.
When speaking to young 10 year old British Asians about what they want to do with their life, I often hear the same three words over and over…”lawyer, accountant or doctor”.

It’s obvious that clubbing among British Asians has recently soared, just check out Leicester Square or Birmingham Broad Street on a Friday night.
As a student, first year was all about hitting the clubs. Later though, the toll of such a lifestyle started to show. I never calculated the extent of going to clubs on my health and More >

It is often that British Asian parents are adamant that they are perfect matchmakers in finding a partner for their son/daughter.
Often, this game of matchmaking leads to sometimes awkward situations at weddings and family functions where members of your family try to introduce you to a potential partner. In some cases, this leads to a great matchmaking method, as, although embarrasing, it is essentially a passport to flirt, in front of family and friends.

This post is here to talk to all the British Asians out there, who have had to break up with their partners because their family don’t approve of their relationship- a romeo and juiliet scenario. Often, it’s the case of a secret relationship, in which one partner has not been open with their parents of the relationship, and eventually has to discuss his/her feelings, or the parents find out through unlucky circumstances.

A bit of a down post, but as we have a medical student as one of our main editors, he insisted that we drone on about medical conditions.
Just to make you aware of a few of the obvious health conditions that British Asians are more at risk of developing.
People of South Asian origin are at risk of Type 2 Diabetes, particularly if it runs in the family.
Symptoms, taken from NHS diabetes page, include:
